Naked Leaky Shed Studio - Veronica Johnson

Hi Veronica here today to share with you some Naked chipboard flowers.  Did I get your attention?  Good :)  I wanted to show you today that you do not always have to alter your chipboard.  They are perfectly cut to show the utmost detail and look pretty just as they are.

I used these beautiful Springtime Flowers and what is clearly one of my favorites the watch parts.

Notice the fine detail in the chipboard.  I wanted to make some natural, rustic tags.  At least that is what I had in mind when I started.  I knew I wanted to add burlap and fabric, then I added some lace and the whole look changed.

By adding the lace - I felt my tag was more "shabby", so I went with it and added flowers, jewels and of course some white paint.

I was in the "zone" so I went ahead and made a second tag with the same color scheme; except this time pronounced the yellow rather than the green.

Thank you for stopping by today, and remember to try out Leaky Shed Studio.

Make Every Minute Artful with Veronica Johnson

Hello, Veronica here to share with you a "timeless" artful tag.

I love the detail on these chipboard pieces and had to use them on my tag.  Tags are such fun to create; they are like little pieces of art.  I like to collect tags and have a wall in my scrap room to display my little treasures.  They are also great to give away as gifts with a gift card.

Today I am sharing my "time" themed tag - I haven't used orange for a while and it is one of my fav colors.

I used the above chipboard and added some metal time pieces.  I also added some hand cut Leaves/Feathers to bring the whole piece together.

I adhered the clock to the upper right. In order to balance the piece I laid the big flower and Leaves/Feather on the lower left.

I then added "filler" with the watch parts and smaller flowers.

My tip and techniques for this piece are:

1.  Coat your chipboard piece with either gesso (in my example) or paint.  It will add tooth to the chipboard and leave a base to hold color.

2.  Add balance to your pieces by creating "weight" to one side or the other.  In this example I loaded the top right and then balanced it with heavy bottom left embellishments.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope to have inspired you to add some Leaky Shed Studio chippies to your stash.

Happy Scrapping, Veronica (Kitsnbitscraps)

Encourage Imagination with Butterflies and Julie Nutting Dolls

Hi, Veronica here today for my first post with Leaky Shed!!

I am so excited to be here and share with you my sweet tag using Leaky Shed's awesome Butterflies and Julie Nutting Chipboard Doll. I love making tags because they are little pieces of art.  Besides trading your little beauties you can also place them on a layout or album.  I have some of my tags framed so that they become Home Décor for your studio or any room in your home. You can even use them to decorate a present to a special person.

My Steps:

Since the butterfly and Julie Nutting doll were the center pieces of my tag I wanted to alter those pieces first. My first step was to prime my chipboard with a base white paint.  After I heat set the base color I then colored the butterfly with alcohol inks.  Lastly I embossed the whole butterfly with clear thick embossing powder.

For the Julie Nutting doll my first step was to stamp the chipboard with a script stamp using stazon ink.  I then colored in her hair, shoes, skin and the outline of her dress with alcohol inks; the alcohol inks dried very quickly.  I then used turquoise paint for the folds of her dress to give it a sort of pattern.  After I heat set the paint I embossed the entire chipboard with triple thick clear embossing powder.

I then created the background to highlight the chipboard pieces.  First I inked and spray misted the tag then used a stencil and molding paste for more texture.  After it dried I started layering leaves, diecut paper, flowers and ribbon.

I finished my tag with dyed binding ribbon and a cute butterfly charm.  I also used some Tim Holtz word stickers which I mounted on cardstock for my message

I hope you enjoyed my tag as much as I enjoyed sharing and creating it for you.  Thank you for stopping by and I can't wait till it's my turn again to feature my next Leaky Shed project!

Happy Scrapping ...

Leaky Shed Studio Nutting Dolls Day 4

Happy Thursday Friends! It's Kris today with another post on these adorable Julie Nutting Dolls.  Have you been to the site to see them all?  Here's a link.  They are adorable.  They have little parts you can play with like bandanas, belts, hats, crowns and even masks!  So. Much. Fun.

If you've been following along all week, you're sure to have a ton of ideas & techniques to use when creating your own.  As I was playing with my dolls, they started blending into my tags and I really wanted them to stand out.

So, I was pondering what I could do, Good 'ol Ursula's voice popped into my head and said, "Never underestimate the power of bod-y lang-uage!" And the idea of silhouetting them was born.

These dolls have such darling figures & amazing detail in them that I decided to stain them black so they would pop of my tags.  I used black ink, for the simple reason that I didn't want the paint to fill in their embossed lines.

I used stickles to paint the Princess doll's crown and then placed it above the D on my dream tag.  I couldn't bare leaving it off my tag and it was a bit much on her head.

After playing with the Princess doll and a shabby look, I really wanted to see if the same technique would work with a clean look, so I played around a bit and guess what? It works.  I love this Sassy Doll!  She is exactly that, Sassy!!!

(I don't know about you... but I can't stop singing poor unfortunate souls now)

Stay tuned over the next few days for more fun ideas to use on your very own Nutting Dolls and if you haven't had a chance to pick some up yet... what are you waiting for?  You will love every minute playing with them!!!
