Make Every Minute Artful with Veronica Johnson

Hello, Veronica here to share with you a "timeless" artful tag.

I love the detail on these chipboard pieces and had to use them on my tag.  Tags are such fun to create; they are like little pieces of art.  I like to collect tags and have a wall in my scrap room to display my little treasures.  They are also great to give away as gifts with a gift card.

Today I am sharing my "time" themed tag - I haven't used orange for a while and it is one of my fav colors.

I used the above chipboard and added some metal time pieces.  I also added some hand cut Leaves/Feathers to bring the whole piece together.

I adhered the clock to the upper right. In order to balance the piece I laid the big flower and Leaves/Feather on the lower left.

I then added "filler" with the watch parts and smaller flowers.

My tip and techniques for this piece are:

1.  Coat your chipboard piece with either gesso (in my example) or paint.  It will add tooth to the chipboard and leave a base to hold color.

2.  Add balance to your pieces by creating "weight" to one side or the other.  In this example I loaded the top right and then balanced it with heavy bottom left embellishments.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope to have inspired you to add some Leaky Shed Studio chippies to your stash.

Happy Scrapping, Veronica (Kitsnbitscraps)

Once Upon A Time in Paris Mini Album with Veronica

Hi, my turn to share and today I would like to show you my latest mini album.  I have made several of these because they are fairly easy to create and make GREAT gifts.  This one is a Paris theme inspired by my girl friend's trip to France.

I used the Leaky Shed Studio Victorian Mirror Frame.  It is so beautiful and detailed, I thought it made the perfect center piece for my album.

I misted the chipboard with Art Anthology colorations sprays in blues and greens.

Then I rubbed some metallic olive over the entire frame.

As a highlight I finished the frame with gold metallic rub-on;  just in the corners

I also decided to add this beautiful Harja Flourish to my mini album.  On this piece of beautiful Leaky Shed Studio chipboard I decided to go with a different technique.

My process:

 Light Gesso:

Paint with H20 very thick, not much water

Emboss with clear powder

I love the way chipboard looks with embossing powder on it.

This part is optional.  I used it because the rub-ons were already out.  I rubbed some metallic gold on the sides for depth.

Now that I have finished my Harja Flourish I can add it to my mini.  You can see the finished inside of my album on my blog Kitsnbitscraps.

I hope I have inspired you to try out some Leaky Shed Studio chipboard.  There are so many themes and shapes.  I especially liked using this beautiful Frame for my Paris Book.  See you soon.

Happy Scrapping, Veronica (Kitsnbitscraps)

Encourage Imagination with Butterflies and Julie Nutting Dolls

Hi, Veronica here today for my first post with Leaky Shed!!

I am so excited to be here and share with you my sweet tag using Leaky Shed's awesome Butterflies and Julie Nutting Chipboard Doll. I love making tags because they are little pieces of art.  Besides trading your little beauties you can also place them on a layout or album.  I have some of my tags framed so that they become Home Décor for your studio or any room in your home. You can even use them to decorate a present to a special person.

My Steps:

Since the butterfly and Julie Nutting doll were the center pieces of my tag I wanted to alter those pieces first. My first step was to prime my chipboard with a base white paint.  After I heat set the base color I then colored the butterfly with alcohol inks.  Lastly I embossed the whole butterfly with clear thick embossing powder.

For the Julie Nutting doll my first step was to stamp the chipboard with a script stamp using stazon ink.  I then colored in her hair, shoes, skin and the outline of her dress with alcohol inks; the alcohol inks dried very quickly.  I then used turquoise paint for the folds of her dress to give it a sort of pattern.  After I heat set the paint I embossed the entire chipboard with triple thick clear embossing powder.
.

I then created the background to highlight the chipboard pieces.  First I inked and spray misted the tag then used a stencil and molding paste for more texture.  After it dried I started layering leaves, diecut paper, flowers and ribbon.

I finished my tag with dyed binding ribbon and a cute butterfly charm.  I also used some Tim Holtz word stickers which I mounted on cardstock for my message

I hope you enjoyed my tag as much as I enjoyed sharing and creating it for you.  Thank you for stopping by and I can't wait till it's my turn again to feature my next Leaky Shed project!

Happy Scrapping ...

Butterfly canvas

Hello everyone. Tiffany here.

I have created this mixed media canvas using the Marion Smith Butterfly album cover. I wanted to use it in a different way rather than just make an album. I love how it turned out. I used Gesso to paint the butterfly and then I used some Shimmerz products. In the cent of the canvas I used a Metal flower and a Manor House Creations paper flower I sprayed.

Here are some more pictures. You can really see all the texture and grunge.

Transforming Christmas Tree Branches into Coral

It's Tracey back to share a layout I recently created featuring gorgeous Leaky Shed Chipboard.

Vacation trips are always fun to remember. In 2012 Gary and I took a trip for our 30th anniversary to Baltimore Inner Harbor. We spent a day at the National Aquarium where I took this shot of the coral reef exhibit. The coral and fish are so colorful and vibrant. I enjoyed extending the feel of the reef onto the layout. I like to get creative and transformed the Leaky Shed 9 inch Christmas tree into coral.

"Beautiful Reef"

Tips and Techniques
Often, I look at my chipboard pieces "outside the box." Here the coral pieces are cut from the branches of the Leaky Shed Studio chipboard Christmas tree, painted with Lumiere gold and green metallic paint. I painted and then bubbled the paint with a heat tool in several layers to build up the paint to achieve a coral-like appearance. I adhered these pieces with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

A close-up of the background which was stenciled with molding paste using the Prima Scales stencil then misted, stamped, splattered with thinned gesso, and doodled. I've also scattered some crystals around the page.

Another flower cluster featuring more of the Leaky Shed chipboard "coral."

Leaving you with one final photo.
