Julie Nutting Princess Canvas

Juliana from 17turtles here with you today to share part one of a set of canvases that I am creating as Christmas gifts for my nieces using the Leaky Shed Studio Julie Nutting Dolls and Ring Frames.

Julie Nutting Princess Canvas

Both of my nieces love pink and all things glittery, so it was fun to dress up the Julie Nutting Princess in a pink and cream patterned paper dress. I then added some shimmer and shine by painting her shoes silver using a Krylon Silver Leafing Pen.

No Princess is complete without her crown, so I gave her a silver glittered one of course.

The frame behind her is the Ring Frame Large and I painted it using a Krylon Silver Leafing Pen and then added silver glitter to the inside and outside rings before placing it behind the Princess.

For more details on how I created this canvas, please feel free to stop by my blog tomorrow.

Dressing up your chippies with embossing powder!

Hi everyone and happy Wednesday!  Maggi here today to share my favorite chipboard embellishment technique.  I love Leaky Shed Studio's chipboard embellishments, they just add so much to a layout!  Here I've added a couple of Leaky Shed keyholes and a key.  I love how they add just the right touch of vintage to this layout.

Notice how the keyhole looks pitted and tarnished.  I achieved that look by first covering my chipboard with brass cream rubon.  You could just as well paint the chippy too.  Then I dabbed on a little embossing ink, (I use an embossing ink dabber from Stampendous rather than an ink pad), being careful not to cover the entire chipboard, then I sprinkled on Stampendous Aged Bronze embossing enamel.  That is my go to enamel for chippies!   I wanted to be sure and keep the detailed lines visible on the chipboard so I took a needle and drew it through the lines to clean out any embossing powder that had adhered to the grooves.  You can also take a fine paint brush and sweep off some of the powder if you have too much.  Now you are ready to heat set the powder and this is the result.

I just love the look on this key!

Supplies:

  Graphic 45 Typography collection
 Graphic 45 Staples letter stickers
 Typography chippy stickers
 Stampendous Aged Bonze Embossing Enamel
 Alterations Sizzix Artful Words
WRMK Lucky 8 Lace Kerchief
Metal Graphic 45 Staples,  Prima Bellas, handmade
Flying Unicorn Metal Adornment keys and bicycle

Next up, another tag with the fabulous Julie Nuttig chipboard dolls.  This started out as a mixed media tag as you can see on the background but I ended up covering most of that!  LOL, that often happens to me.  I just can't get enough of these dolls.  They are so cute and so fun to dress!  This is  4" Princess and I painted her dress with Perfect Pearls gold and the ruffle is Luminarte pink cloud. One thing I really love about leaky Shed chipboard is the detail lines that are cut into the chipboard; they add so much fine detail.  I want to be sure to keep that detail so I am careful not to get paint in the lines but if I do, I just take a straight pin and draw it through the line and that usually fixes it right up!

Again I used Stampendous embossing enamel on her crown,
this time in aged gold.

I also popped up the doll to give her even more dimension.

Supplies:

Kaisercraft Curiosity paper collection
Stampedous Aged Gold Embossing Enamel

Leaky Shed Studio Nutting Dolls Day 4

Happy Thursday Friends! It's Kris today with another post on these adorable Julie Nutting Dolls.  Have you been to the site to see them all?  Here's a link.  They are adorable.  They have little parts you can play with like bandanas, belts, hats, crowns and even masks!  So. Much. Fun.

If you've been following along all week, you're sure to have a ton of ideas & techniques to use when creating your own.  As I was playing with my dolls, they started blending into my tags and I really wanted them to stand out.

So, I was pondering what I could do, Good 'ol Ursula's voice popped into my head and said, "Never underestimate the power of bod-y lang-uage!" And the idea of silhouetting them was born.

These dolls have such darling figures & amazing detail in them that I decided to stain them black so they would pop of my tags.  I used black ink, for the simple reason that I didn't want the paint to fill in their embossed lines.

I used stickles to paint the Princess doll's crown and then placed it above the D on my dream tag.  I couldn't bare leaving it off my tag and it was a bit much on her head.

After playing with the Princess doll and a shabby look, I really wanted to see if the same technique would work with a clean look, so I played around a bit and guess what? It works.  I love this Sassy Doll!  She is exactly that, Sassy!!!

(I don't know about you... but I can't stop singing poor unfortunate souls now)

Stay tuned over the next few days for more fun ideas to use on your very own Nutting Dolls and if you haven't had a chance to pick some up yet... what are you waiting for?  You will love every minute playing with them!!!
